What you will do:
The Director of Community Engagement leads SECU’s community engagement and partnership efforts—driving strategy, cultivating relationships, and ensuring measurable impact across Maryland. This role connects SECU’s mission with local needs, advancing both brand awareness and social good through programs, partnerships, and employee engagement. Represent SECU in the community as a reliable and authentic voice. Build partnerships that reflect the true needs of Maryland communities, ensuring SECU remains a trusted resource and advocate for positive change. Champion initiatives that drive meaningful impact, particularly for underserved or overlooked groups. Prioritize long-term community benefit over quick wins, even when it requires extra effort or investment. Act as a bridge between SECU’s internal teams, nonprofit partners, schools, small businesses, and civic organizations to ensure collaboration, transparency, and shared success. Show up with compassion and purpose at community events, volunteer programs, and partner activations. Demonstrate SECU’s commitment to kindness by inspiring employees and partners to give back and create lasting impact.
The Director of Community Engagement adheres to regulations and organizational policies, maintaining awareness and knowledge required to perform the duties of the position, including all aspects of the Bank Secrecy Act and related regulations, such as OFAC, and the USA Patriot Act, Fair Lending and Information Security.
A day in your life might include:
• Community Strategy & Leadership
o Drive SECU’s community engagement strategy by aligning partnerships, programs, and initiatives with organizational priorities. Anticipate community needs and identify opportunities for SECU to lead with impact across Maryland. Leverage segmentation insights to understand our member needs in the community related to partnership development.
• Volunteerism & Corporate Giving
o Shape and oversee SECU’s volunteer program and corporate giving efforts. Curate a calendar of year-round opportunities from donation drives to large-scale service days that engage employees and deliver measurable benefit to the community.
• Event Activation & Representation
o Represent SECU at community events, civic functions, and partner activations. Serve as the visible ambassador of SECU’s mission, leading presentations, coordinating logistics, and ensuring the SECU brand shows up with purpose and heart.
• Partnership Development
o Build and strengthen relationships with nonprofits, schools, small and diverse businesses, and civic leaders. Collaborate with partners to co-create opportunities that advance financial wellness, equity, and kindness in Maryland communities.
• Impact Measurement & Storytelling
o Oversee measurement and reporting of community initiatives. Collect impact data, feedback, and stories that demonstrate ROI and bring SECU’s mission to life for employees, members, and leadership audiences.
• Team Leadership & Mentorship
o Coach and mentor team members to grow their skills, expand SECU’s reach, and deliver excellence. Promote a culture of kindness, accountability, and innovation—helping the team thrive in both day-to-day execution and long-term strategy.
Additional Responsibilities may include:
• Support organizational events, such as conferences, member appreciation days, or special marketing campaigns, to enhance brand visibility and engagement.
• Act as a mentor to emerging leaders within throughout the organization, supporting their professional development and growth.
• Support SECU and the SECU MD Foundation in community outreach programs.
• Collaborate with the HR and Training teams to integrate marketing programs into employee education and onboarding materials.
• Managing vendor relationships, ensuring alignment with SECU’s goals, and negotiating favorable contracts.
