SECU is seeking a University Relationship Manager. Candidates will need to currently reside in Maryland to be considered for this role.

What you will do:
In this role, the University Relationship Manager will demonstrate SECU’s mission and core values by developing and maintaining relationships with students, campus partners and forage new relationships on university campuses to win new SECU memberships and deposit relationships via SECU’s financial wellness programs. Serves as a liaison between the University team, marketing, and the retail teams to develop and uncover opportunities for growth. This person will attend various campuses for tabling and presentations in person or virtually. This person will sign up new members and follow up with each lead after events, while tracking engagement outcomes. Additionally, they will lean on key retail teams and partners to attend events and spread financial literacy across the University System of Maryland to accomplish university goals and initiatives. This individual will offer concierge virtual appointments with members at our main partner universities.
The University Relationship Manager adheres to regulations and organizational policies, maintaining awareness and knowledge required to perform the duties of the position, including all aspects of the Bank Secrecy Act and related regulations, such as OFAC, and the USA Patriot Act, Fair Lending and Information Security.
A day in your life might include:
• Business Development - “How do I provide financial literacy curriculum through campus connections designed to increase membership growth to meet established organizational targets?”
• Development and production of new member acquisition through the sourcing of new and the maintenance of existing campus partnerships
• Development of new membership relationships to SECU through outbound activities including but not limited to SECU’S financial health curriculum on campus.
• Outreach to brand new university contacts and develop a new relationship with them.
• Serve as an extension while maintaining regular presence with retail teams, relevant LOB partners, SMEs and own the coordination and facilitation of university development activities, virtually or in person.
• Establish a process for VIP campus partners and concierge banking services
• Identify campus opportunities with new groups of students and develop fun and engaging opportunities for financial education and collaboration.
• Work closely in partnership with the Partner Member Advisors and retail teams around facets of the university partnership strategy.
• Identify and secure resources needed to effectively execute business development activities.
• Participate in community activities to advance SECU’s mission and core values and promote the benefit of SECU membership.

• University Partner Experience – "How do I contribute to the overall partnership experience and perception from an organizational perspective?"
• Own, develop and maintain effective working relationships with University partners and in partnership with retail partners. Comfortable working with varying degrees of audiences including but not limited to (students, staff or faculty) at a university.
• Deliver exceptional member and employee experience via the facilitation of SECU’s Financial Literacy, and acquisition strategy in person or virtually.
• Model and inspect for adherence to SECU’s sales and service engagement policies – offer guidance when necessary
• Demonstrate organizational skills, following up and following through on outstanding action items while recommending changes for improvement of University actions.
• Ensure team members and members are educated on all applicable products, services, and channels of delivery
• Operations & Compliance – “How do I collaboratively partner to serve as a credible resource to internal and external members?”
• Serve as a subject matter expert for all products and services, financial transactions, operating policies and procedures, and Patriot Act and Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) rules and conditions.
• Have a general working knowledge of the various functions and procedures for all departments of the credit union.
• Advise leadership of any situation that could be potentially detrimental to efficient operating practices, member or SECU risk.
• Ensure the safety and security of self, other SECU staff, property and member information.
• Enterprise Contribution – “How do I contribute to the big picture of SECU’s overall success?”
• Demonstrates understanding of SECU’s mission, core values, one page strategy and critical measures.
What we need from you:
Education Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree and/or 3-5 years in a banking role
Experience Requirements.
- 3+ years of experience in the following: Outbound business development and sales experience, preferably in the financial services industry. Established book of business or robust COI network is preferred.
- Understands account opening and managing requests that come in to support the campus memberships
- Strong background of developing and presenting to large audiences and immediately acquiring new memberships.
- Strong understanding of the process to set up accounts at SECU.
- Thorough understanding of SECU’s value proposition and the SECU’s people, products, and services
- Experience with effective and impactful sales interviewing and negotiation techniques to align with member needs.
- Ability to prioritize, manage multiple objectives, projects, and relationships
- Excellent presentation skills, ability to create presentations, present to all levels (students, staff, faculty, parents and alumni) and follow up appropriately
- Understands business development and ability to uncover and follow up with strong leads that would lead to growth and acquisition.
Physical Requirements -
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
• Ability to travel across the state of Maryland as needed
• Ability to work nights and weekends as required
Compensation Information: Offers will be commensurate with experience and education.
- Salary Range is $73,800 to $118,000, but please note that the Budget is $80k - $85k/yr.
