Physical Security Specialist

Department: Properties
Location: Linthicum, MD

SECU is hiring a part-time Physical Security Specialist to work in our corporate and branch locations within Maryland. This person will work approximately 25 hours per week.

The Physical Security Specialist will perform physical security-related tasks to support the needs of the SECU, including satisfying requests for facility access and ensuring surveillance systems function optimally. Responsibilities include responding to alarm calls, managing visitor access at SECU headquarters, and overseeing badge credentials for employees and tenants. Additionally, this role will assist with the facility security program to enhance safety and prevent unauthorized access to secure areas. The position also requires being "on call" for events that may impact the Credit Union after hours. This is a part-time role.

The Physical Security Specialist adheres to regulations and organizational policies, maintaining awareness and knowledge required to perform the duties of the position, including all aspects of the Bank Secrecy Act and related regulations, such as OFAC, and the USA Patriot Act, Fair Lending and Information Security.

A day in your life might include:

Visitor Management:

  • Greets and assists visitors: Welcomes visitors in a professional manner, either in person or over the telephone, addressing inquiries or directing them to the appropriate parties.
  • Ensures proper identification: Verifies and records visitor identification according to company policies, ensuring adherence to security procedures.
  • Monitors visitor access: Ensures that visitors are properly logged, issued visitor badges, and escorted to their intended locations as necessary, maintaining building security.
  • Communicates with staff regarding visitor arrivals: Notifies relevant personnel of visitor arrivals and any deliveries, ensuring smooth coordination with internal departments.
  • Maintains visitor management system: Updates and maintains accurate records of visitors, ensuring real-time accuracy and easy retrieval of information.
  • Coordinates external deliveries: Manages and schedules external deliveries, ensuring they are directed to the correct receiving area and logged appropriately.
  • Reports and addresses suspicious activity: Identifies and reports any unusual or suspicious behavior from visitors, following established security protocols.
  • Maintains confidentiality: Handles visitor information in a secure and confidential manner, complying with privacy and data protection policies.
  • Follows emergency protocols: Ensures that visitor information is readily available in case of an emergency and helps facilitate the safe evacuation or assistance of visitors as needed.
  • Accommodates special needs of visitors: Assists with any specific needs or requirements of visitors, such as directing them to amenities or providing additional support as necessary.
  • Disables access credentials for separated employees: Immediately deactivates access credentials for employees who have left the company, ensuring security is maintained.
  • Conducts badge audits: Performs regular audits of access badges to ensure their proper use and compliance with company security standards.
  • Monitors surveillance video: Continuously observes headquarters surveillance footage, reporting any suspicious or abnormal activity to appropriate personnel.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • High School Degree Required
  • At least 5 years of experience in a field related to security, law enforcement, military service or financial services.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • The Physical Security Specialist is required to carry a firearm and maintain all necessary permits in accordance with applicable laws.

Compensation Information: Offers will be commensurate with experience and education.

  • Hourly Rate: Min. $21.35 – Max. $32.02
